During medical training, students are confronted with a variety of teaching tools and methods. Even though some of those tools are utilizing modern technology to some extent, we've yet to find a solution that properly leverages the potential of state-of-the-art virtual training methods. Our goal is to deliver a solution that lives up to the promise of digital teaching tools by combining immersive virtual reality (VR) technology and real-time physiology simulations: STEP.VR

In an unprecedentedly true-to-life hospital environment with virtual emergency patients, medical students and young physicians acquire desperately needed practical knowledge as well as the skills needed for triage of patients and self-organization. Supervision and subsequent evaluation by a mentor ensures a thorough understanding of critical situations.

This sthrengthens the graduates self-confidence and reduces their anxiety of actual emergencies. STEP.VR offers evaluation and feedback, based on official treatment guidelines. Close cooperation with healthcare professionals ensures correctness of depicted content and suitable user experience (UX).
In ThreeDee's PhysioLogics™ engine, diseases are not represented as a scripted sequence of events, but rather as an actual pathophysiological continuum. Accordingly, the effects of drugs or transfusions are also calculated and visualized in real time, as well as clinical parameters (e.g. respiratory rate) or laboratory values.

A first prototype of STEP.VR has sparked great interest among students and specialists at the "Visceral Medicine 2018", the largest congress for gastroenterological and visceral surgery specialists in the German-speaking area. The medical faculties of the Universities of Wuerzburg, Ulm and Halle, are evaluating the capabilities of STEP.VR compared to conventional teaching methods.
